after a long break with news and blogs, this is finally a little update on latest developments:

Finally the movie was officially released in the USA in May 2010 through STRAND
Releasing.

Also Mediasoft Films licensed the movie for South Corea

In UK the movie is planned to be released by TLA-releasing on the 16th of August. TLA decided to create their own artwork and give the film another name. They call it ‘Porn diaries’.

At this point we – as the creators of the film – want to make clear, that it is the licensees decision, if they choose their own artwork (as in USA, Canada and UK) and even create new names. We do not neccessarily agree with all this. But we do hope the film itself stays untouched and unchanged.

The DVD will contain a lot of extras including deleated scenes and unpublished footage and also an original ‘Question & Answer’ discussion from the Helsinki International Filmfestival ‘Love & Anarchy’, which we joined 3 weeks ago.

This is actually the first DVD release with the offcial theatrical version, which is different to the version, which was released in Canada earlier this year. The DVD will contain a lot of extras including deleated scenes and unpublished footage and also an original ‘Question & Answer’ discussion from the Helsinki International Filmfestival ‘Love & Anarchy’, which we joined 2 weeks ago.

And there are finally some good news on the international distribution issu: After our former world distribution MEDIALUNA declared bankrupt early summer and all international sales were stalled for a long time, we were finally able to get the rights free for the movie and sign with a new world sales agent – AUTLOOK from Austria, a Vienna based company with a great reputation on documentary sales.

We also hear that the UK release is finally coming up in 2010. Besides that we hope to have more information soon about upcoming releases in other countries.

The 2 premiers in BERLIN and 5 days later in MUNICH marked a appropriate setting for the offical German theatrical start. Both screenings were a celebration and the parties were intense.

And even the heat-wave, which struck Germany couldn’t keep the crowd out of the cibemas. Both cities of course were leading the list in the number of viewers, followed by COLOGNE, which had a slower start. I guess the party was missing. But it seems 9to5 is a ‘city movie’. And due to the strong request of people, we are very glad to finally have a theatre in HAMBURG, the famous ABATON, playing it and starting Thursday 16th of July (check list below).

The day before, actually tomorrow, we also have a Q&A (question and answer) in the CINEMA in MÜNSTER, which also starts playing this week. Whoever wants to come, I will be there, ready to discuss with you and answer all your questions.

We are also very proud, that we kind of competed with Ice Age 3 with the media coverage. Some links below, just to give you a little hint, how great the movie has been appreciated, even by the most critical ones. OK – there were 3 or 4 not so good articles. But when I put it in relation to the hundred great ones, I am totally fine with it.

There have been more and more questions about the SOUNDTRACK. I hope we find a partner for this soon. Keep sending those mails. It helps!

First of all SORRY! for the longest time offline, since this blog exists. But the last 6 weeks were so intense. We had to solve the situation with the insolvency of our world distribution and all the consequences. But since today we are again official owners of our own movie.

So hopefully soon all the people who mail us, asking when the movie will be out in the USA and other European countries: This blog will be updated more frequebtly again and give you those informations soon.This also includes the festival situation.

Also we were busy moving out of our office in Munich.

But most important: The movie come to theatres in Germany starting 2nd of July in all major cities. Since we just have a very limited budget for copies. We hope that people cover all seats in the cinemas in Berlin, Munich Cologn and other nice cities in the next 2 weeks, so that we can afford and get booked by more cinemas all over the country.

Press is responding reallly well. A lot of major magazines (kultur-SPIEGEL, Rolling Stone, INTRO, PLAYBOY, etc.), radio shows and TV-stations (NDR, MDR, 3,SAT, BR, etc.) had or will have features in their cultural programs. If the audience is just reacting half as good as media, we should be very confident about the future of the movie.

In expectations to this we are celebrating a PREMIERE PARTY. After the screening in the CENTRAL Kino in BERLIN on the evening of the 2nd of JULY the official premiere party is happening in the WHITE TRASH and is presented by LoDown Magazine. Everybody is welcome and there is no red carpet crap or other completely unneccessary usual premiere-features. Just great DJs, including our friends from GOMMA and lots of beer! COME ON OVER and party with us.

We will also attend certain cinemas in Germany for screenings with a Q&A-session, where you can meet, talk and discuss with us starting at the MOVIEMENTO in Berlin Kreutzberg on this coming Friday the 3rd.

Yesterday we received a call which definitely enlightened our day: I am nominated for my camerawork on ‘9to5 – Days in Porn’ for the most prestigious camera award in Germany: The Deutscher Kamerapreis. Beiing nominated is such an honour and I can’t express how proud the selecting commitee in Cologne makes me, for being so brave and presenting our ‘edgy’ movie on the official big stage.

The award ceremony will take place on the 21st of June in Cologne.

The bad news surprised us last week, when we got notice that our world distribution  filed for insolvency. Besides the money they never payed us we are spending most of the time, trying to save what is left. Meaning dealing with attorneys, court etc.. It is bad! Probably after Cannes, which is starting this week, we will know more about our international sales situation.

This also brings some confusion to the festival schedule, since our world distribution was responsible for this, but for obvious reasons is enable to manage the situation. Just a kind of surprising news in Italy. Biografilmfestival in Bologna cancelled their invitation after they understood, that a week before the movie has a screening in Bellaria. Don’t ask what the one thing has to do with  the other, and we are not talking about an A-festival requesting a premiere. But this is festival politics. No more comment needed.

News for Latin America: It seems that LAPTV is planning a release on one of their channels. in August.

The preview tour in Germany is doing really well. I was in Augsburg for two packed screenings and great audience reaction. Discussions went on forever and I received some really motivating comments. We are very excited for the 2 screenings in Berlin on Friday (15th at 3 PM in the Central) and Munich next week on Tuesday (19th at 10:45 PM)

Our movie in Germany is officially a movie for grown ups. We are rated 18 – no surprise – but we are not x-rated. So by definition it is not porn. But the Trailer was rated 16, This means we can promote the movie for the theatrical release in July with the trailer after 8PM.

In Italy two nice festivals put the movie in their line-up. The BELLARIAfilmfestival in Bellaria from the 2nd to the 6th of June and the Biografilm Festival in Bologna from the 10th to the 15th of June.

Exact dates will be announced as soon as we know them.

I am in love with….Buenos AIres. Not just that BAFICI (Buenos AIres Festival de Cine Indepediente) is one of the best festivals ever. But the people, the atmosphere, just anything is just adorable. I guess this is also why ‘9to5′ found a great audience. The highlight was definitely the – of course – sold out night at the MALBA museum in Palermo. No words, just gooze bumps on my skin.

It was no question, that the stay in Argentina had to be extended for some days. 

But the beautiful spring back home in Munich made the switch a little easier. And not just the weather is heating up. It looks like Germany is finally open the doors for our movie:

ZORRO plans the theatrical release in bigger cities like Berlin, Munich, Cologne, etc. in the first week of July.

But we also have some special preview dates ahead a little earlier:

So we actually felt like real winners of at least buzz and audeince reaction. I guess only the jury of 3 judges in our category didn’t agree. I hope they all (!) watched the movie. Anyway – we don’t want to be greedy at this point. How more happy can we be as right now, when we experience that the film draws always the biggest audience at festivals and nobody except that 1 person ever leaves the cinema. On top we experience great discussions and obviously the movie stays in peoples memory for quiet some time.

After Miami, I travelled to Boston, where we went Underground to the Boston Underground Film Festival. A big change after the spotlight in Florida. But again – even in the city of education the midnight premiere was full and kept the audience until 3AM until we ended the Q&A.

I watched 2 great movies at the festival. If you ever have the chance, go and watch Dead Girl (2009 – there is a movie with the same title from 2006). And a must is ‘Anywhere USA’ from my new friend Chusy.

On Sunday I will fly to Buenos Aires, continuing our little Rockstar-period, and join the BAFICI – one of the biggest and best festivals in Latin America.

By the way – all German institutions like the Bavarian Filmfund FFF and the BKM refused any support for the distribution. Meaning the film stays truly independent. No public support at all. The funny part, which we don’t get – how many of all the funded movies ever get to be seen on a big screen, ever go to as many big international festivals and get sold to as many big territories as ‘9to5′?

Is this the unconfortable feeling the subject matter creates in peoples stigmatized preconception?

But ZORRO – our German ditributor -  is still planning a theatrical release in Summer in Germany. We just have to play in a smaller arena. And we love ZORRO. We definitely keep you posted and write us for questions or advises!

after we arrived in Miami Sunday night, already excited to finally have our US-Premiere at the Miami International Filmfestival, we could not belive our eyes, when we looked at the schedule next to the ticket counter: Our second screening for Wednesday night is already sold out. Could there be possibly a better start than this?

The Filmfestival is just the perfect place for us to be. Run by the new director Tiziana Finzi it seems like this festival is really taking off. Great movie selection, amazing film and art personalities from around the world and a wonderful,

 highly motivated and perfect organized staff make this a very rewarding experience for us.

On top Cleonice was invited for her first NBA match and witnessed the extraordinary performany of Dwyane Wade at the 

130: 127 over the Chicago Bulls in 3rd overtime.

By the way – we finally had a little new deleted scene up. Check out Cindy Crawford and Jim Powers talking through a brake on a set.

Now excitment grows for our screenings. We’ll keep you posted.
